    Ralph E. Abbott, 80, 20 Race st, Sugar Grove, died March 16, 1978, at his residence. He was born Nov. 9 1897 in Sugar Grove, a son of the late John M. and Matilda Eastman Abbott. He was a lifetime resident of the community, a retired merchant having been in the grocery business for more than 40 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War I. He attended the First United Presbyterian Church of Sugar Grove. He was a charter member of the American Legion of Sugar Grove and also of the Sugar Grove Volunteer Fire Department.

    Survivors include his wife, Loretta Spencer Abbott, whom he married June 12, 1919; one son, John M. Abbott, of Lander; two daughters, Mrs. Bob (Jane) Johnson, Erie; and Mrs. Stuart (Helen) Andersen, Sugar Grove; several nieces and nephews; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Jessie Cody, in 1977.
