In 1807, William HARVEY wed Rachel TOWNSEND, daughter of John and Elviry TOWNSEND of Warren county, Ohio. They were married at the Miami Monthly Meeting of the Society of Friends there, and soon after emigrated to Indiana, settling on a quarter section of land in Wayne county. The TOWNSENDS had come to Ohio from Chester county, Pennsylvania, where Rachel's ancestors had settled in the early 1700's when they immigrated from England. They were from Berkshire and had earlier lived in Gloucestershire, where her first known forebearer had been born in 1602. Her grandfather married into the REYNOLDS family which dated back to 1505 in southeast England, and first came to America (Colonies) in the early 1600's.

    Includes a photo of her gravestone, partially obscured. What can be read appears to be:
    "Rachel Harvey died 2 mo. 26. 18-- aged -4 y's. 3 m. 2- [d.]"

    A transcription added by a user says that the death date is 2-24-1850 and the age is 64 yrs 3 mos 27 days. However, the day of the death is clearly 26 from the image, and an age of 64 years is consistent with a death date of 26 Feb 1855 (not 1850).
