Facts and Events
There is no evidence that Rachel, the wife of this Aaron Davis, maiden name was Laws.
We get Rachel's name from a deed that was written in 1820, signed in 1828. In the deed, Aaron DAVIS' wife was named, and Rachel also signed the deed with her mark. That is all we know for Arron's wife Rachel. Steve Smith of Claiborne County, TN has researched the Davis family for decades]. The research and documents below are from his research: "There were Davis families on the Muddy Creek area near the Greenbrier River confluence. Aaron Davis was there in 1774 and he had many other Davis families adjacent and nearby. Aaron married a woman named Rachel, a member of the John Alderson church. I have one reference that shows Rachel was a member of that church. Don’t know if there are any baptism records that would show a Rachel Davis, or another Rachel? Aaron and Rachel had children born here: Susannah Davis, Moses Davis, Aaron Davis, Jr; Harmon Davis, Thomas Davis, Mary Davis (md. Isaac Yoakum - another family near here) Isaac Yoakum was a son of George Yoakum and George was a son of Valentine “Felty” Yoakum. Valentine was massacred in the 1763 Indian massacre. He was killed along with his brother-in-law, Frederick See. Do you have any information on these Davis families? I descend from Harmon Davis. The Aaron and Rachel Davis families moved to Claiborne County, Tennessee before 1797 and Rachel Davis is found at the organization of the Davis Creek Primitive Baptist Church, organized in October 1797 in Powell Valley alongside the Davis Creek. They came to Powell Valley about the time the Yoakum and VanBebber families came, who were intermarried into the Davis family. - Steve Smith, Harrogate, Claiborne County, Tennessee." |
