Research Notes

Morris Chapel, named in honor of Presley Morris, one of the prominent members, and a generous contributor to the building fund, was commenced in 1847, and completed in 1850. March 20th, 1848, the church was incorporated under the laws of the State, and a board of trustees elected, consisting of Solomon V. Dorman, Jesse Wiley and Jacob Miller, Henry Snyder being elected secretary. This chapel is located about a mile east of the Slate Mills. It has been one of the land marks pointing the way to a higher christian civilization, and was the second Methodist organization in the township.
