Will

His will[5] mentions his son Charles Ford and his daughter Mary Floyd for specific bequests, and his sons Jesse Ford and William Ford as executors. The will also directs for the sale of virtually all the remaining property "for a Division among my Sons and daughters to wit George Ford, James Ford, Thomas Cooper, Preserved Ford, Jesse Ford, Jesse Rawls, John Ford, William Ford, Francis Floyd, & my wife Cecilia Ford."

Given that he had a daughter Mary Floyd, it is assumed that Thomas Cooper, Jesse Rawls, and Francis Floyd were his sons-in-law (although one or more might be stepsons).

Marriages

He may have had more than 2 wives. According to some trees, he had as many as 4. There seems to be a great deal of uncertainty about the identity of the mother(s) of his various children, but both the wording of his will (in which he gave his wife Celia some land and asked his executors to build a dwelling for her there) and the age of Celia Ford in the 1830 and 1840 census records suggest that they were married relatively late in his life.

  6. According to some internet sources, Preserved was born in Florence, Marion Co., SC, and some say Georgetown, South Carolina.
which did not exist. There is a Florence County, a Florence in Pamlico County and a Florence in Guilford today. But at the time of Preserved's birth, it was probably Craven County
(Florence was founded by General William Wallace Harlee in 1850 and named after his daughter Florence).
