Asheville Citizen-Times (NC) - March 12, 2002 “FRANKLIN - Prelo J. Dryman, 87, of 272 Maple St., died Sunday, March 10, 2002, after years of declining health. Born April 24, 1914, he was the son of the late Ray and Mamie Dryman of Scaly Mountain and was a lifelong resident of Macon County. He was preceded in death by sisters, Bea Owens, Lucy Norton and Annie Head, and a grandson, Richie Dryman. He was a member and past treasurer of First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for many years. Prelo was a farmer in his early years, then operated a feed and seed store, a restaurant and Dryman's Men's Store in Franklin from 1953 to 1991. He was a member of Junaluskee Masonic Lodge 145, past president of Smoky Mountain Shrine Club, past president of Franklin Lions Club, past president of Franklin Merchants Association and director of Northwestern Bank and First Citizens Bank. He is survived by his wife, Merle Peek Dryman, of the home sons, Larry Dryman and wife, Ann, of Franklin and Richard Dryman and wife, Charlotte, of Greensboro sister, Bessie Barnes, of Scaly Mountain brother, Frank Dryman and wife, Ollie, of Franklin four grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. The funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church with the Revs. Harold Ball, Robert Dryman and Mickey Duvall officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery with graveside rites conducted by Junaluskee Masonic Lodge 145. Pallbearers will be Chris Dryman, Zach Dryman, Buzzy Bryson, Gene Head, Fred Barnes, Ellis Head, Horace Owens and Billy Owens. Honorary pallbearers will be Oscar Ledford, Dr. David Silverstein and J.L. West. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Iotla Street, Franklin, NC 28734. Macon Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.”
