- ↑ ST. GEORGE - Phyllis Truman Hunt Bracken, 95, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away at home, Friday, September 15, 2006. She was born August 22, 1911, on the Truman Ranch near Gunlock, Utah, to Albert Henry and Florence Matilda Bowler Truman. She was the last survivor of their eleven children.
On May 2, 1932, she married Royal S. Hunt. Born to this union were Nellie Rae Jones, Henderson, NV; Darwin Samuel, Fillmore, UT; and Mary Louise (Sherman) Hafen, St. George, UT. Royal was killed on the Hunt Family Ranch in November 1941. Phyllis married Murray G. Bracken July 2, 1943. This marriage was blessed with twins, Stanford (Carol) Bracken, Page, AZ; and Sharon (Bill) Springgate, Henderson, NV. Murray preceded her death October 1982. Phyllis lived her entire life in Washington County and loved the rich pioneer heritage of the area, and took great pride in her pioneer ancestry. She worked at Center Department Store for 27 years and made many cherished friendships through this experience. Phyllis was a past president of the Lady Elks and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She held many responsible positions within the church, which included service in the St. George Temple. She was a faithful visiting teacher until age 90, when health prevented her from continuing. Surviving family include her five children; 20 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; four greatgreat-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; 10 siblings; sonin-law, Stanley E. Jones; and great-grandson, Benjamin Genys. The family would like to express their thanks to those who helped in her care, Southern Utah Home Care and Hospice, and Mabel, her care giver for the last five years. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 19, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. in the St. George 8th Ward Chapel, 166 S. Main St., St. George. Friends may call Monday, September 18, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 S. Bluff St., and again Tuesday, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to services, at the Chapel.
