Served in South Africa Boer war with Highland Light Infantry. In 1902 joined 2 Bat/ Royal Garrrison Reg, at Gibraltar and Standerton SA. Returned to England about 1907. Signed up to Loyal North Lancs Reg at outbreak of WW1 and sent to the front Line on the Menin Road, Captured and interned at Witenbeerg POW Camp where he died during the typhus outbreak in 1915. Children did not see him again having left them at home in Sheffield, England. Occupation at time of marriage = machinist Marriage witnessed by Chris Jackson & Lizzabeth Wright Married in Congregational Church, Hartlepool Buried in CWG Berlin South West, His name appears on the War Memorial at Klien Wittenberg in Germany. He contracted typhus as a result of volunteering to care for his fellow POW in a makeshift hospital built and staffed by the POW.
