The first record of this man is in a 19 Oct 1772 gift deed from Thomas Magee to Phillip Magee "brother to sd Thomas" to 200 acres on Little Coharie Creek formerly belonging to their father William Magee (Duplin County, NC DB 3, 371-2). This was the Phillip Magee who received payment from North Carolina for militia services rendered during the Revolutionary War (NCDAR, "Roster of Soldiers from NC in the Am Rev," 355). At some point during his Revolutionary War military service, he was wounded, as shown by the county court minutes of Sampson County dated 13 Feb 1798: "Ordered that Phillip Magee be allowed 10 pounds per year from 1781 to the present time, he having been wounded in the militia service of this state" (Bizzell & Bizzell, "Sampson County Court Minutes 1784-1800," 245). I should point out that Phillip's cousin of the same name (Phillip the son of John) has often been erroneously credited with the Revolutionary War militia service.

This 1798 record is the last mention that I have been able to locate for this Phillip Magee in Sampson County. His whereabouts for the next several years are a bit cloudy. Whether or not he was the "Philip McGee" who was a head of household in Kershaw County, South Carolina in the 1800 Federal Census (aged 26-45) is unclear. He next "appears" in St Tammany Parish, Louisiana by 1808, where he occupied several tracts of land on the east side of Bogue Chitto River in what is now northern Washington Parish. He remained on these tracts for a few years, when he removed about 20 miles down the Bogue Chitto, along the waters of Berry's Creek in Washington Parish, near present-day Isabel. Berry's Creek is a small stream that empties into Bogue Chitto River. He finally appears to have removed across the Bogue Chitto River into St Tammany Parish, where he died.

21 Oct 1808, Philip Magee of Bogue Chitto District to Joseph Erwin, no consideration stated, sold his claim "on and about the Half Moon Bluff," bounded below by James Hayes, above by John Magee; wits. Abner Bickham, Isaac Erwin; Proved 28 Jan 1812 by Abner Bickham (St Tammany Parish, LA Deed Bk A-1, 13) [the John Magee in this deed was his cousin John, son of John]
13 Jan 1809, Philip Magee to Robert Simmons, no consideration stated, sold improvement on ES Bogue Chitto, between William Lawrence and Henry Day; wits. Thomas Bickham, Abner Bickham; Acknowledged 12 Oct 1812; Recorded 14 Oct 1812 (St Tammany Parish, LA Deed Bk A-1, 38).
25 Dec 1811, Phillip Magee, Planter, to Isaac Erwin, Planter, for $600, sold improvement on ES Bogue Chitto River whereon sd Magee now resides, improved in Feb 1809, adj James Miller on lower side and land whereon Robert Kirkland now resides on upper side (St Tammany Parish, LA Deed Bk A-1, 11).
15 Oct 1813, Duncan McIntyre to Henry Jarrel, for $300, sold improvement on SS Bogue Chitto, joining Jesse Parker below; wits. Jesse Parker, James Berrior; Acknowledged 27 Sept 1816; same date, Henry (x) Jarrel assigned the within to Thomas Williams for $200, wits. John Talley, John S. Grissby; recorded 30 Sept 1816; 11 Nov 1817, Thos. M. Williams assigned the within to Duncan McIntyre, wits. Benjamin Parker, Samuel Williams; proved 11 Dec 1819; 3 Dec 1819, Duncan McIntyre, for $300, assigned the within to Philip Magee (St Tammany Parish, LA Deed Bk A-1, 168-9, 393).
13 Aug 1820, Phillip Magee of St Tammany Parish to Ebenezer Ford of Washington Parish, for $1000, sold 640 acre tract in Washington Parish on headwaters of Berry's Creek (St Tammany Parish, LA Deed Bk A-1, 486).

He appears in the 1812 tax list of St Tammany Parish, Louisiana, in which assessment he was shown with no wife and four children in his household (Williams, "Founding Families and Individuals of Washington Parish," 4).
