    Philip the third son of Stephanus was a merchant in New Amsterdam, and like his father, took and active part in public affairs. In June, 1729, he was recommended to the king for appointment as a councillor of the province by Gov. Montgomerie. The appointment was made, 3 Feb., 1730, he took his seat in April of the same year, and continued in the council until his death, when he was succeeded by Edward Holland.
