Lewis, Philip, s. of William, 2d. Deputy (Fairfield), May 1698. Son of William and Mary (Hopkins), and gr. son of William and Felix (Whiting?) Lewis. Bapt. at Hartford, 13 Dec. 1646; lived with his father's family in Farmington; settled in Hartford; removed to Fairfield, 1692. On 8 Aug. 1692, being of Hartford, he bought from John "Butteler" of Hartford, merchant, as attorney to Francis Foxcroft of Boston, merchant, land in Fairfield. Married Sarah Ashley, dau. of Robert of Springfield, Mass., b. 23 Aug. 1648. In 1709 Philip Lewis and Elizabeth Lewis the younger witnessed a deed. Inv. 4 Dec. 1723 presented by his dau. Sarah Taylor. Jonathan Sturges of Fairfield, attorney for Philip Lewis of Boston, and Richard Hollingsworth of Fairfield in right of wife Ruth one of the daus. of Philip Lewis late of Fairfield dec'd, dissatisfied with action of Probate Court, 13 Oct. 1725.
