Philip C. Greiner

Philip C. Greiner, 83, of Terre Haute died Friday morning, June 17, 2005, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. He was employed by Travelers Insurance Co. for 27 years before establishing Philip Greiner Insurance Agency, which he owned and operated until his retirement in 2002. He was born June 20, 1921, in Blackhawk to Ernest H. Greiner and Elizabeth Haxton Greiner. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Ruth Smith Greiner; two daughters, Gail A. Price and her husband, Dr. Stephen Price of Terre Haute, and Charr Lynn Skirvin of Plainfleld; one sister, Leah Rose Bischoff and her husband John of Terre Haute; and several nieces and nephews. He was a veteran of World War II, where he was theater sergeant major in the U.S. Army Air Corps, Squadron 13 Air Force, stationed in India. He was a member of Lawton Byrum Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972, Squadron 13 Air Force, Last Man's Club, Pimento Masonic Lodge 292, Free and Accepted Masons, Zorah Shrine Temple, member and past director of Terre Haute Court 45 Royal Order of Jesters, Sycamore Country Club, Country Club of Terre Haute and a founding member of the Strawberry Hill Cannoneers. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Monday in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th St., with the Rev. Abe Miller officiating. Burial is in Highland Lawn Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, friends who so desire may make contributions to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2001 S. Lindbergh Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63131-3597.
