  • Peyton Randolph Morgan was named after Peyton Randolph, an early public official in Virginia, who had impressed Peyton's father Abner Morgan while on a visit to Mr. Randolph's home in Virginia prior to 1775.

    ... VII. PEYTON RANDOLPH MORGAN, educated at Yale College, but was called home by his father's death, and did not return to graduate. He was admitted to the New York Bar at Avon Springs, Livingston County, New York. He founded the City of Saginaw, in Michigan, in 1886. He was an eminent lawyer in large practice in Wisconsin at his death in Racine, Wisconsin, Jan. 24, 1871. Married November 9, 1843, Joanna, daughter of Brigadier-Gen. James Appleton, commanding 1st Brigade, 2d Division, of Massachusetts troops, in and subsequent to the war of 1812, in Portland, Me. Miss Appleton was fifth in descent from Major Samuel Appleton, who in 1675 raised the siege of Captain Miles Morgan's stockade at Agawam (now Springfield) as related, anie p. 47, thus united in their son, Appleton Morgan, two families whose representatives fought side by side in King Philip's war. Issue:
