Name Peter Sweeney
Gender Male
Marriage to Catherine Diamond

Peter Sweeney was an agricultural labourer who lived in the parish of Castleconor, County Sligo in Ireland. He was married to Catherine Diamond. Only two primary evidence sightings of him have been found; he listed is in the 1833 Tithe Applotment Book for Castleconor as the occupier of 1.25 acres of arable land in the townland of Muingwore with a rateable value of 16 shillings, and two years later he and Catherine had a daughter named Mary baptised at Castleconor's Catholic Church. The Castleconor Catholic records only began in 1835, so it is quite likely that Mary was the youngest of a number of children, but the baptisms of the others predate the start of the register. We know from secondary evidence that Peter and Catherine had at least two other children, boys named Michael and James, who both later emigrated to south-west Scotland. It is James's death certificate that tells us Peter was an agricultural labourer.

The Castleconor Catholic records did not start recording burials until 1856, whilst death certificates were not introduced in Ireland until 1864. It seems likely that Peter died before either of these dates; no plausible death or burial at Castleconor has been found for him, and he is not listed in the Griffiths Valuation of County Sligo, published in 1858.
