Peter immigrated with his sisters to America. They came straight to Minneapolis. He had trade skills in woodworking and cabinet making. The eariest directory listing is 1889 where he is living at 245 Cedar. In 1892, he is living at 509 10th Ave S. in Mpls. Anna Swanson is living at 610 10th Ave. So. (possibly one block apart). Sometime in late 1891 early 1892, Anna becomes pregnant. They apply for a marriage licence on July 27, 1892. Clifford Palmer Peterson is born on September 14, 1892 and the birth certificate address is 517 So. 12th Ave. In 1894 Peter is living at 703 3rd Av NE which is near the Mpls. furniture co. he works at. He is residing with his cousins, Otto and Nils Nilson for two years. In 1895 to 1897, all of these people are living at 724 NE Adams St. In 1898, Peterson’s move to 1407 Madison NE. Peter becomes sick with a bacterial infection in his lungs in June 1900 and dies at age 31 as there was no antibiotic treatment at that time. His son is age 8.

Peter’s uncle, Peder Nilsen (his mother’s younger brother) immigrated to Preston, MN in 1861. Peder is married to Caroline in 1868 and has two boys, Nels and Otto Nilsen. These two first cousins move to Mpls. and live with Peter for a time.

It is not known how Peter and Anna met. They have common birth dates in December. It is assumed that Anna got pregrant prior to marriage. Clifford was born two months after the Hennepin County Licence date.

Peter worked for Minneapolis Furniture Company, located on the corner of 5th Ave & SE Division Street. His trade was cabinet maker and furniture trimmer.
