PETER migrated to America in 1836, with his mother, older sisters, younger brother Fredrick, and perhaps others. The family located in the southern part of Tuscarawas County, Ohio. There were other Hauperts located in the area.

Peter and Philippine were probably married in Salem Township, which is just south of Jefferson Township. They were probably married in the German Reformed church in Port Washington. The nearby township of Jefferson, was the former home of many other Palatines, who moved on to Wabash County, Indiana.

The family migrated to Wabash County, Indiana in 1851 (discrepency - daughter Karolina baptized in Tuscarawas Co. in 1852) Peter was one of the 18 (or 21?) founders of St. Peter's Church.
