[catherine epes.FTW] Peter Epes (1730-1807) Peter lived at "High Point", also called "High Peak", on the East side of Bailey's Creek, Prince George Co., VA, about three miles from City Point. On November 22, 1764, he was named Justice of the Commission of the Peace for Prince George Co. On May 8, 1775, he was named a member of the Committee of Intelligence. Then on June 26, 1777, he was named Lieutenant Colonel of Prince George Militia, later becoming Colonel. In 1779 Peter became Sheriff of Prince George County. By 1782 he owned the 800 acre "Butterwood" tract and 800 acre "Namozene" tract in Dinwiddie Co., also land in Prince George and Amelia, all of which he held until his death. By 1787 he had added the 200 acre "Pennistone" tract to his Dinwiddie land and held 1175 acres in Amelia Co.. In 1792 he held 100 acres in Prince George, presumably the "High Point" tract, which grew to 200 acres in 1793. References
