The Bargers, whose name shows their German origin, have left a very numerous line of descendants in the town. The original settle of the name was probably Peter Baragar who bought 213 acres of land of the commissioners of forfeitures in 1780. The old homestead is now owned by George Barger. The name that was phonetically written in Michigan as "Barager" in Michigan was recorded as "Burger" in the Dutch areas of New York. Peter Burger married Heyltje (Dutch Spelling for Helen) Van Natten on Dec 6, 1801 and the marriage is recorded in the Reformed Dutch Church of Rhinebeck NY. Peter is listed as being the son of Andrew and his wife the daughter of John. I listed three Burger-VanNette marriages from the same general time frame and from the same general area. The other two were Caty (Cathy/Catharine) Burger married Benjamin VanNetten on 27 Dec 1793 with the marriage recorded in the Reformed Dutch Church of Rochester (Not the Rochester, NY of today but the one located in the county of Ulster, New York and near Accord, NY of today and about 20 miles form Rhinebeck.) with both parties listed as being born Rochester. The other was Peter VanNatten to Maria Burger on 26 Jan 1793 also listed in Rochester with both listed as being born in Rochester. I do not know the relations between any of the parties.
