Lived in Halifax County during most of his life. Was a soldierin the Revolution and is referred to in some records as Major.No evidence has been found as to his rank of major, but we dofind that he was a commisioned officer during this time. HisRevolutionary service is mentioned in"Virginia Militia in theRevolution," by McAllister; "Virginia Soldiers of 1776," byBurgess; the 8th and 9th Annual Reports of the Va. StateLibrary, H.J. Eckenrode, Archivist. After the war he settled down to a planters life, in HalifaxCounty and built up quite an estate in land and slaves. Was married twice. First wife died and he remarried.
