J Perry Nye, age 94, died at the Hartsgrove home he was born in on Thursday, September 28, 2017.He was born on March 13, 1923 the son of Robert E Nye and Clara (Kampf) Nye.

He was married to Mary Potter Nye on February 2, 1963. Perry was a WWII US Army veteran and served in the occupying forces in Japan in 1945-46. After the war, he returned to Hartsgrove and was a life-long dairy farmer and autodidact.

Perry was engaged civically throughout his life. He served on the Ashtabula County Beautification Committee during the Johnson-Era, and was a long-time member of the Ashtabula County and Vocational School Boards. Later in life, he was involved with the Grand Valley and Western Reserve Land Conservancies.

Perry is survived by his son, Jonathan Nye, of San Francisco, his beloved nephew, Ben Holmes, of North Orange, Massachusetts, and a hoard of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Perry was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, his partner, Lois Sturrock, and his siblings, Cynthia Marsh, Mary Fuller, Elizabeth Holmes, and William Robert Nye.

At Perry’s request, there will be no funeral service. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America or to the Western Reserve Land Conservancy.
