Facts and Events
Paula Alma Shinn graduated in nursing from the Kitchener-Waterloo Hospital in 1935. Over sixty years later she was still proud of winning the surgical technique award at graduation. During her first posting in Toronto she met George Taylor and eloped that same year. They relocated to Sarnia Ontario during the war when he was sent to work at the new Polymer rubber plant. Her husband died suddenly in 1962, leaving her with three children at home and no income. She returned to nursing, retraining at the hospital in Sarnia and later returning to her birthplace of Waterloo to work at the hospital there. Set up on a blind date by one of her children, she met and married Frank Partridge, an engineer in Toronto. They lived there for several years, relocating to Belleville, Ontario after his retirement. After Frank's death, she returned to Sarnia, where some of her children lived. Image Gallery
