Longtime Soldotna resident Paul "Butch" Poissant died Monday, June 28, 2004, at his home. He was 63.
A viewing will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. Friday, July 2, at Peninsula Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be at 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Mr. Poissant will be cremated following the services.
Mr. Poissant was born Dec. 18, 1940, in Little Falls, Minn. He served two tours of duty honorably in the U.S. Marine Corps during Vietnam.
After his military service, he returned to Minnesota, where he owned and operated Century Masonry. He moved to Alaska in 1979, started Tri Cities Construction in 1980 and continued its operation until the time of his death.
Mr. Poissant loved to work, gamble, ride his motorcycle and helping people.
He also enjoyed spending time with his bulldogs, Chopper and Magpies.
"Butch had an ability to motivate people not only by example but by support and decisiveness. Butch loved his family and his bulldogs," his family said.
"Honesty and being true of spirit were two of his finest qualities. His family will always remember his wisdom and one-liners. He believed in peace, justice and freedom."
Mr. Poissant was preceded in death by his brother, Harvey Poissant, and mother and father, Sophie and Albert Poissant.
He is survived by his wife, Launie Poissant of Soldotna; daughter, Dawn Haugstad, and her husband, Steve, of Soldotna; son, J.R. Poissant of Kasilof; daughter-in-law, Tammy Reeve of Kasilof; stepson, Billy Cox of Soldotna; and grandchildren, Shaun Reeve, Sarah Reeve and Maria Reeve, all of Kasilof, and Dillan Haugstad of Soldotna.
The family prefers memorials be sent in Mr. Poissant's name a charity of choice.
