Paul Chase of Bedford, Indiana, died Sunday, January 20, 2002, at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on November 24, 1907, in Medora, Indiana, he was the son of Thomas and Effie (Henderson) Chase. He married Thelma Green, and she died in 1985. He then married Lois Sowder, and she survives.
Surviving with his wife are two sons and daughters-in-law, Frank and Eva Chase of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Roger and Annette Chase of Indianapolis; one step-son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Dolly Sowder of Bedford, Indiana; one brother and sister-in-law, Ivan and Evelyn Chase of Bedford, Indiana; one sister and brother-in-law, Blanche and Jim Scherschel; five grandchildren: Steven Chase, Brian Chase, David Chase and Roger Chase, II and Jennifer Ucchino; four step-grandchildren: Chrissy Boyd, Missy Little, Terry Sowder, and Ladonna Sowder; ten great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers: Maurice, Roy, and Raymond Chase; three sisters: Alice Case, Ruby and Ruth Chase; and one step-son, Don Sowder.
He was a retired banker and president of the Bedford National Bank and formerly in the auto business. He served as Lawrence County Treasurer, a member of the Federal Reserve Board, and was involved in many other civic and community activities. He was a member of the First Christian Church, Bedford Lodge #14 F&AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis, Murat Shrine Club, Bedford Elks Lodge, Fraternal Order of Police and was past president of the Bedford Kiwanis Club.
Services for Paul Chase will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 24th at the Day & Carter Mortuary with the Rev. Bob Dailey and Dr. John Buttz officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens.
