    Paul Leroy Carnathan, 75, of Lobaugh Hill Road, Rimersburg, died at 6:05 p.m. Monday, April 25, 2005, in the intensive care unit of Clarion Hospital.
    Born Jan. 5, 1930, he was the son of Dale and Ruth Gourley Carnathan.
    He was a 1947 graduate of Union High School, Rimersburg. Mr. Carnathan was a member of the U.S. Army as a gunner in the 155th Howitzer Co. Artillery Battalion during the Korean War. He worked for General Electric in Erie and attended cabinetry-making school. Mr. Carnathan was a member and served as president of Union Local 441 in Knox. He was a member of the United Church of Christ in Rimersburg. Mr. Carnathan enjoyed being with his family, farming, gardening, woodworking and camping. His wife of 51 years, the former Martha Kay Mortimer, survives. Also surviving are three sons and their wives, Eric and Susan Carnathan of Rimersburg, Randy and Rhonda Carnathan of Latrobe and Steve and Marge Carnathan of Rimersburg; eight grandchildren, Adrian, Alex and wife, Mindy, and Mitch of Rimersburg, Curtis and Jordan of Latrobe, Jessica, Alicia and Jacob, all of Rimersburg; and one great-grandson, Hunter, of Rimersburg. He also is survived by four sisters, Betty Walter of Loveland, Conn., Lucille Kifer and husband, Everett, of Clarion, Eve Trainer and husband, Jerry, of Clarion and Jane Reed of Rimersburg; many nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Della Carnathan of Rimersburg. In addition to his parents, Mr. Carnathan was preceded in death by a son, Gregory Paul Carnathan, in 1963; one sister, Gladys Eddy; and one brother, Gary Carnathan. Private funeral services were held Thursday in the Varner Funeral Home in Rimersburg with the Rev. John Phillips, pastor of the New Bethlehem Church of God, officiating. Interment was in Rimersburg Cemetery with full military honors accorded by the ceremonial squads of the Rimersburg VFW and the Rimersburg American Legion Post. The family requests memorials be made to a charity of one's choice.
