1830 - Patrick was tried at Newington, Surrey on 7 June 1830 at the age of 23 or 24 for selling counterfeit coins. His name was given as Patrick QUIN but it was stated that he preferred the name Patrick GRADY. He resided at Union St, Borough. He was sentenced to 7 years transportation. At the same trial was James ELLIS, brass founder, age 20. Both were transported to Van Diemens Land on the ship "Clyde". On the ship's records, Patrick is listed as one of eighty males who embarked on board Clyde for Van Diemens land from the hulk "York" at Gosford on the 14th day of August 1830. Patrick's surname is spelt QUINN. He is listed as married and his character as "Bad. Convicted Before." However, it also states that his conduct on the hulk York was "good". Patrick's character on board ship was described as "orderly".

Clyde was a 490 ton, 2 gun, ship built at Greenock in 1819. It departed from London/Portsmouth on 30 August 1830. There were 216 male convicts and no deaths were reported. The voyage took 110 days and they landed in Hobart on 18 December 1830. The Master was Dan N Munro and the Surgeon was Morgan Price. The ship's arrival was reported in Hobart Town Advertiser. Patrick was described as: Height: 5 ft 4 3/4 inches; Hair: Dark Brown; Eyes: Grey; Marks: Love and Libertie, Elen, Woman and anchor on right arm, Lily and star inside left arm, PG back of left hand.

His recorded offences as a convict were: 26 May 1835 - Out after hours; 9 September 1836 - Out after hours.

1837 - Patrick was given a free pardon on 28 June 1837.

1840 - Patrick went to Melbourne.
