All Codyres (of which there are very few)are descended from one common ancestor, Patrick Codyre born in Galway City Ireland in the 1700s. I have researched the name Codyre for many years and I will give you the reasons for my reply. Firstly all Codyres come from Galway, Ireland. I know that this might sound improbable but there are very few Codyres and all branches around the world descend from people born in and around Galway City. Secondly I have learnt from relatives of yours that the surname Co Dyre was changed from O'Dyre or O'Dwyer when your descendents left Ireland and they added a "C" to the name to disguise the Irish origins. Thirdly, although you mention Ellen Green,(who from your e mail would have been your great grandmother) and which I think may have confused Debbie Newman as the name appears on her branch, the Ellen Green whom you mention could not be Debbie's Ellen Green and I think somewhere over the years misinformation has occured with regard to Ellen Green. I did have some information from a CoDyre in Canada who also gave this name but your Ellen Green and New Zealand Codyres Ellen Green (if they both exist) are not one and the same person. There has either been a mistake or it is a massive coincidence which has confused CoDyres and Codyres and has led them to think there is a link between them when there is not.
