Patricia Lou (Day) Hallagan

    Patricia Lou ("Patti") died Monday, 15 May 2017, at Wellbrooke Nursing Home, Avon, IN. Born 28 November 1924, Sharpsville, IN, daughter of Daniel I. & Berniece (Hawkins) Day.
    Patti graduated, Sharpsville HS, 1942, attended IU, 1942-43, then worked for Continental Steel Corp & Block's Dept. Store. In 1944, Patti graduated from Barbizon School of Modeling, NYC. In Feb 1945, Patti joined the Marine Corps, serving 2 years, then returning to IU, graduating 1949, BS in Fine Arts. While at IU, Patti met Harvey Maurice Hallagan, whom she married on 3 September 1947. Harvey was a "decorated Navy war veteran"; both he & Patti completed college, thanks to the GI BILL.
    In 1956, Patti earned her "MS" in Education at Butler University. During the post-war years both Patti & Harvey held various business positions which ultimately brought them to Indianapolis in 1952, where Patti began her career in high school teaching. Her distinguished service eventually elevated to becoming Dean at Harry E. Wood & George Washington High Schools from 1959, for 18 years until retirement in 1982. Patti's life was dedicated to Education & Civic Affairs. In 1961, she was elected President, Indiana Art Education Assn. - and later - President, Alpha Delta Kappa Society. In 1972, Patricia Lou Hallagan was honored/ selected by WHO'S WHO OF AMERICAN WOMEN for her noble career in Art & Education.
    The couple had no children, but had a remarkable love for dogs, throughout their lives. Patricia Lou's sole surviving family member is her half-brother Samuel Kent Bollenbacher at the VAMC Hospital, Marion, Indiana. She was preceded in death by husband Harvey in 2013, her father & mother Daniel & Berniece Day, and step-father Samuel Bollenbacher Sr.
    A Celebration of Life will be held 2 July 2017, 12-2 p.m. with funeral service 2-3 p.m. at Flanner and Buchanan-Washington Park North, 2706 Kessler Blvd, Indianapolis; with burial next to Harvey Maurice ajoining at Washington Park North Cemetery.
