Patricia LouIse Pence nee Crumrine, 89, passed away on May 31, 2022 at her home. Patricia was born November 3, 1932 in Neal Kansas
The oldest child of Martin Luther Crumrine Jr and Hester U. Pierce Crumrine. Pat joined an older ½ sister Bonnie and was later joined by 4 brothers and a sister.
The family moved around the area while her father worked farms and oil patches to support the growing family. After moving to El Dorado with her father at the age of 13 Pat started working to help support the family and later her own growing family. Pat dropped out of school in the 9th grade to help work and support her family. In her 50's after becoming a young widow she went back to school at Butler County Community College and received GED as well as taking extra business classes.
Pat's first work experiences came from working at several of the iconic cafes and lunch rooms around El Dorado. She both cooked and waitressed during this period. While working at one of these cafes she met her future husband, Bobby Jack Pence. They married November 10, 1950.
To this union two daughters were born: Karen Sue and Sharon Kay. Pat had a very strong work ethic which she instilled in her daughters. After her family was raised Pat went back to work. She first worked at Holden Liquor store part time and moved to Bright's Liquor Store fulltime where she worked for 34 years before retiring to care for her partner. Pat loved working in the public. Meeting people and hearing their stories. She always said working at the liquor store was like being Joe the bartender. Everyone wanted to share.
Pat was "MOM" to everyone not just her daughters. All their friends and customers at the store called her Mom. One of the girl's friends ran away from home once. She packed a bag and ran the two blocks to Mom's. Pat called her parents and let them know she was okay and she stayed until she was ready to go home.
Pat loved coming from a large family and married into a large family gaining 4 more brothers and 2 more sisters. Family gatherings were always a great time. Mom was famous for her fried chicken and apple pies. Some has mentioned they can remember the smells from her kitchen.
Pat loved to fish and camp but was not a fan of traveling far from home. She was a homebody. She enjoyed her hobbies so much that she was content to stay home and read and sew. It was not unusual for her to read 2 books a day. She made her daughters cloths for everyday and special occasions until they were in high school. She had a standing wager with her brother-in-law Danny on the Thanksgiving OU Nebraska game for years. If OU won she made Danny a homemade shirt and if Nebraska won she got a brand new sweater. I think she only got 1 sweater but Danny enjoyed all his new shirts.
Pat was proceeded in death by her parents and husband Bob in March 1981. In 1986 she met Junior Singleton and they were partners until his death in September 2004. She was also proceeded in death by her sister Bonnie Sandburg, Brothers William Crumrine, Donald Crumrine, JC Crumrine and Richard Crumrine. She was a great lover of dogs and her best friend Prince passed two years ago.
Pat is survived by her very loving daughters, Karen Pence(Dave Palmer), Sharon Hendricks(Ron) all of El Dorado Grandchildren: William Heyman of Leon, Bradley Gooding (Jolana) of Bella Vista Arkansas, and Casey Gooding(Missy Jack) of El Dorado. Great grandchildren: Cheyan Gooding, Silas, Clayton, Dylan and Titus Gooding. Her sister Paula Norton of El Dorado. Several nieces and nephews and her favorite grand dogs Fern and Bella.
