. “Church member for 72 years / Mrs. Patience Showalter dies at advanced age - had several great great grandchildren,” Santa Rosa Press Democrat, Santa Rosa, CA, 6 February 1912, P. 5, Newspaper microfilm. “Mrs. Patience Showalter, whose family of children have all passed into the beyond ahead of her, diedd Monday morning near this city, after an illness of several months. The deceased is survived by eleven grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. The deceased was a native of Illinois, aged 89 years. She had been a member of the Methodist Church for 72 years, and died firm in the faith of her religion. The remains are at Welti Bros.’ undertaking parlors, where the funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock, with the Rev. E. E. Godwin, a retired Baptist minnister, officiating. The deceased was born in Lawrence county, Ill., June 16, 1823, and as Miss Couch was married to Martin Ruark, December 24, 1845. Three daughters and one son were born of this union, the son dying in infancy, and the father died a year later. After seven years’ widowhood Mrs. Ruark married John Showalter. Two sons, both of whom died in infancy, were born of this union. Mr. Showalter died in Newton, Iowa, in 1890. Mrs. Showalter’s oldest daughter married O. Whitcomb in Newton, April 22, 1864 and died in Calistoga, August 18, 1911, leaving a husband, two sons and three daughters. the second daughter married George Loupe at Newton, and aws the mother of six children, four sons and two daughters, all of whom survive their grandmother. Mr. Loupe died in 1910, and his wife a few months later. Mrs. Showalter outlived all her own brothers and sisters and her children. She was a consistent member of the Methodist Church from the age of 16 and died looking forward to a happy life in the world to come. The last 16 years of her life, Mrs. Showalter made her home with her son-in-law, O.
