Pasquale listed his place of residence as S. Teverino, Italy (which I think is a misread of S. Severino) on his passenger record when emigrating to the new world. He came to Ellis Island on 12 Oct 1905 aboard the ship Sicilia. The ship departed the port of Naples (Napoli), Campania, Italy on 28 Sep 1905. He was listed as 27 yrs old, single, a merchant who could speak English. He listed that he was to stay with his brother Francesco at 65 Main St., Bristol, CT. He returned to Italy around 1911 (most likely with Matteo) and returned with his (new?) bride, Donata Alfano Perozziello on 24 Oct 1912 aboard the Konig Albert. They were returning to America with Matteo, his wife Rosa Corlisieri, and their daughter Giovanna.

After the death of Donata Alfano in 1917, he remarried Alicia (Allie, Alice) Aniello.

Upon returning in 1912 he stated that he was going to stay with a brother-in-law Guiseppe Cannella in New York. How could Guiseppe be the brother in law of both Matteo and Pasquale? Listed his occupation as a weaver.

My great-grandfather, Pasquale Perozziello, left Naples on 28 September 1905 on the ship S.S. Sicilia and headed for America. He landed at New York's Ellis Island on October 12, 1905. At the time he stated that he could speak and write English and listed his occupation as a merchant. He stated that his last residence in Italy was San Severino. He was 27 years old and listed himself as single. He stated that he was going to stay with his brother, Francesco Perozziello, at 65 Main Street in Bristol Connecticut. The manifest stated that his brother paid for Pasquale's passage to America and it listed him as being in good health and having $12 in his wallet. Francesco had immigrated to America some time before Pasquale. I have not yet found the record of Francesco's immigration. I assume that Francesco was an older brother to Pasquale, but I am not sure. He seems to have been the first Perozziello of my lineage that established himself in America. As you will see later, he was the person that many in the family came to stay with. To be honest, I do not know much about Francesco, other than this. My family told me that one of Pasquale's brothers died in a factory accident. It was most likely Francesco and I think it was some time around 1910 or 1911 when it happened. He was employed at either the Bristol Brass Works or the Bristol Ball Bearing Company; I am not sure which. Two years after Pasquale came to America his other brother, Matteo, did much the same thing. Matteo left Naples on the ship S.S. Roma and reached Ellis Island on December 14, 1907. He said he was 24 years old and listed himself as married, but his wife was not on the trip with him. He also listed that he was to stay with his brother Francesco Perozziello in Bristol, Connecticut and that his last Italian residence was Mercato San Severino. They mention on the manifest that he had a scar under his lip. I believe, but have found no records to substantiate, that Francesco may have died around 1910 and Matteo and Pasquale then returned to Italy. I have found no record of any of them in the 1910 U.S. Census (in America they count everyone every 10 years…this is done to apportion federal, state and city budgets for roads, water and sewage treatment plants, and so forth. It also determines the number of representatives each community gets to send to Congress), so I am thinking that maybe the reason is that they were not here in the United States at the time. I know that Matteo and Pasquale had to have returned to Italy because it is in 1912 that I have found further Ellis Island records of their return. On October 24, 1912, Pasquale and Matteo left Naples on the ship S.S. Konig Albert and returned to Ellis Island. But this time they were not alone. Pasquale returned with his new bride, Donato Alfano. Pasquale was now 34 years old and his bride, Donata, was 29. Pasquale now listed his occupation as a "weaver" and Donata's as "housewife". They both said they could read and write in English. Both listed their Italian place of origin as Mercato San Severino. They listed Donata as having a rosy completion and light brown hair and Pasquale's as black. They also noted that Donata had a mole on her neck. My grandfather always said his mother was tall, with long blonde hair and blue eyes and was very beautiful. Unfortunately, no photographs of her are known to exist. It was from her that my grandfather and great-aunt (Teresa) were to have gotten their beautiful blue eyes. The family story was that when Pasquale married Donata, her parents, Domenico Alfano and Filomenna Iannaco (or Iannaca?), gave them a vineyard in Gaeta as a dowry. I am not sure if this is true or not, but makes for interesting family legend. I do not know if it was supposed to be a grape or olive vineyard. Pasquale listed his place of residence in America as Bristol, Connecticut but that they were going to initially stay with their brother-in-law, Guiseppe Cannella. Both Matteo and Pasquale also stated that the nearest living relative to them in Italy was a sister Teresa Perozziello. They both said she was living in Sant' Angelo and Paquale said she lived in a "castel [unreadable]". When I found Pasquale and Donata were staying with their brother-in-law, Guiseppe Cannella, this raised many questions. Who was Guiseppe Cannella? Was he a relative of Donata (meaning she had a sister in America) or a closer relative to Pasquale (meaning Pasquale had a sister in America)? This was answered by looking at the record of Matteo's family. Matteo was returning with his wife Rosa Corlisieri (or Corbisieri) who was 27 years old and their daughter, Giovanna Perozziello, who was 7 years old. This would mean she was born around 1905, two years before Matteo came to America to establish himself. He listed his occupation this time as a laborer and Rosa's as a housewife. They listed their point of origin in Italy as Sant' Angelo. Matteo said that his place of residence in America was New Britain, Connecticut (a neighboring town to Bristol). They too listed they were staying with a brother-in-law Guiseppe Cannella in New York. Giovanna listed him as an uncle. This meant that Guiseppe had to be married to a sister of both Matteo and Pasquale…another Perozziello sister.
