Paschal was a tobacco and corn farmer in Todd, Kentucky Paschal was born 23 August 1817[1] in Virginia. Family records show Paschal passing away in March 1897.[citation needed] He was deceased before 1900 as his wife Charlotte is widowed on the census.

Marriage

Paschal married Charlotte McCain on 19 October 1844 in Stewart, Tennessee.[2][3]

Bedford, Tennessee

1830 Bedford, Tennessee Census show Pascals father David Brown, Pascals brother Alexander F. Brown and again at the top of the page his brother in law James Hester and hiis wife Elizabeth H. Brown Hester.

(1) July 1844 road crew order for "Paskel" Brown, from the County Court Minute Book; the entry is near the bottom of the page; the road being described, from Bailey's Ferry to Tobaccoport, went across what today is Land Between the Lakes, from Byrd Creek on Tennessee River to Acree Creek on Cumberland River. This road would have passed close to the existing Fuqua Cemetery.

In Stewart County, Tennessee the 1844 & 1845 tax lists don't survive, he's not in the 1843 or earlier lists, so I conclude that he wasn't in the county before 1844. But his Uncle William C. Fuqua was in the county by 1838.

Paschal Reese Brown and his wife Charlotte H. McCain are living in District 8. Also living in District 8 are William H. Brown (from Bedford, Virginia) and Nancy Brown. Paschal does not appear on earlier Stewart Co. tax records, and Nancy and him are absent on tax records after 1847. Paschal does not own any land in 1846 or 1847, suggesting that he and his wife are living in someone's household or on another’s property.

His middle name: From Tom Brown: Paschal has three grandchildren or great-grandchildren who bear the middle name of Reese. We can assume they acquired their middle name from their grandfather or great-grandfather Paschal R. Brown. In addition, we have DNA matches with a Rhoda 'Reese' Brown family of Bedford, Virginia. We can assume that ‘Reese’ and not the earlier spelling of 'Reis' is Paschal's correct middle name and spelling. Furthermore, the name Reis is of Germanic origins and Paschal was not of Germanic origins. I have never found documents in my many years of research that show the spelling of 'Reis' or 'Reese' for Paschal's middle name. It only shows the letter ‘R’. However, based on the circumstantial evidence we can assume that 'Reese' is the correct spelling. More research is needed. Update: Evidence gathered from a phone conversation on August 15, 2024 with Mr. (Living) Brown who is a great great grandson of Pascal stated that his brother Mr. (Living) Brown was named after his great great grand father Pascal Reese Brown. He verified the spelling and told me it was spelled Reese and said he was named after Pascal. DNA Research: From Tom Brown: In 2017 I took a Y-DNA 37 test with FTDNA and had 6 matches, 2 are Exact Matches for the first 37 markers. In May of 2024 John Hakola (William Birdwell Brown) William Birdwell Birdwell Brown (1829-1891) and I updated our test to the Big Y700. William Birdwell Brown, William Alonzo Brown, Alexander F. Brown and Pascal Reese Brown have a 2 step Genetic Distance and now belong to Haplogroup I-FTB90836. I have talked with and learned a lot from those YDNA matches. The oldest known relatives of my two exact matches are a Alexander F. Brown b. 1807 in Bedford, Virginia and the other William Birdwell Brown b 1826 in Virginia as well. Both matches have the surname of BROWN. Do the two exact matches indicate these two ancestors are brothers/cousins to Paschal R. Brown? In addition, I had a 3rd match as well, who match 36 of the 37 markers. That person's oldest ancestor is a William Alonzo Brown b.1809 in Virginia and d. 1896 in Calloway, Kentucky. This gentleman has spent about 40 years researching this topic and has connected his William Alonzo Brown with a high degree of certainty to a James Madison Brown b. 1755 in Virginia. This James Madison Brown is a brother to David Brown. We all belong to the haplogroup I-FTB90836 and according to the TIME MACHINE feature on FTDNA says that we share a common ancestor at the year of 1766. Paschal was not in Bedford, TN in 1840. The Pascal Brown on the 1840 census in Bedford, TN is a different person. The head of household was 30-39 years old. This Paschal was in his 20s. Updated note on 8/2024-Elizabeth H Brown Hester born 1809 in Virginia is the sister of Pasal Reese Brown. See link to learn more. Elizabeth H (Brown) Hester (1809-1881)
