- ↑ Otis Eugene Picknell, who would have been 96 in September, died Friday, July 13, (1962), at the Barron hospital after an illness of two months.
He was born Sept. 25, 1866 at Bristol, Vermont, and lived in Pennsylvania before coming to Barron county many years ago. He was married Aug. 18, 1900 to Ellen Whitcomb at Cumberland and resided in Barron since his marriage. Mr. Picknell engaged in farming before his retirement and was a great horse lover. He bought and sold horses for many years and made several trips to the east coast trading horses. In the years before power equipment came into use he dug many basements here with teams of horses. Ote as he was familiarly known to young and old, kept a team of horses until recent years. He was a source of historical information of Barron's early days and enjoyed relating anecdotes to his friends and neighbors. Surviving are two sons, Willam H. of Barron and Walter W. of Waterloo, Ia.; 18 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; a sister, Myrtle Lentz of California; a brother, Lee of Cottage Grove, Ore.; a half-brother, Glen Halsted, and several nieces and nephews. Precededing him in death were his wife; a brother, George, and three sisters, Quilla, Elfie and Alice. Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 17, at the Foursquare Gospel church here with Rev. Delmar Walker officiating. Interment was in Wayside cemetery with Rausch-Rockman in charge. - ↑ Age on death record is not correct.
