    His muster roll describes him as 5'6" tall, with blue eyes, light complexion, and light hair.

    Otis Barton first entered into service for Company C of the 10th Illinois Infantry on 17 April 1861 at Quincy, Illinois. He was mustered in the same day. He later re-enlisted as a Veteran Volunteer.

    Otis Barton entered into service for Company C of the 10th Illinois Infantry 1 January 1864 and mustered in 5 days later. Both events occurred at Rossville Georgia.

    He mustered out on 4 July 1865 in Louisville, Kentucky.

    Otis Barton married, first, Laura M. Baughman on 9 January 1868 in Adams county, Illinois.

    They had a child: Laura Caroline, who later married (1891) and was divorced from (1907) Harry C. Woodruff. They had one child, a daughter. Laura became a devotee of Christian Science. She died overseas.

    Otis Barton married, second, Laura T. Dwight on 23 May 1871 in Adams county Illinois.
