The Early Records of the Town of Providence Volume X Being The Book Called Town Council No. 1 1692 to 1714 and Containing The Records Of The Providence Town Council. Published 1896 Pages 132 - 133 At a meeteing of the Towne Councill December the 28th : 1713 

It is Granted unto Othaniell Gorton of Mashantatuck in Providence that he may keepe a Publike house of Entertainement where his now dwelling is in said Mashantatuck, for the space of one whole yeare, beginning upon the 14th day of August 1713 & to End on the 14th day of August in the yeare 1714; And for his licence to Pay Twelve shillings

And to give bond for to keepe good Orders.
