Osman K. Seaver, a resident of Burlington VT, enlisted as a Private in the Union Army on 23 August 1862, and enlisted in Company C of the 12th Cavalry Regiment of Vermont on 4 October 1862. He mustered out of his unit on 14 July 1863 in Brattleboro VT ["Military Records of Individual Civil War Soldiers," Historical Data Systems, Provo UT, accessed at "American Civil War Soldiers" database on www.ancestry.com].
