Pierce: Jackman, Orvis Harrison, Granby Que. - Born at Abbotsford, Que., Dec. 25, 1858, son of Elman and Jeanette (Rowell) Jackman; family came from N.H. and settled in Abbotsford among earliest in section; E. public schools; member A.F. & A. M., Sussex Preceptory, Sherbrooke, Karnak Temple, Montreal, P.D.D.G.M. for Shefford and Brome; president Granby Fish and Game Club; Conservative; Methodist: after leaving school farmed for several years near Granby, later took up residence in Granby village and entered employ of the Granbt Rubber Co.; in 1892 resigned said position and in 1892 took up life assurance work; one of the cheif promoters in organizing Protective Ass'n of Canada for masons only; sold interest in ass'n in 1909 and entered into partnership with W.S. Dresser & Co. mgr. North Am. Life Assurance Co. in Eastern Townships; in 1910 retired from said firm and accepted position with same company as inspector for P.Q.; resigned in 1913 accepted salaried position with the Sun Life as travelling solicitor in Quebec; qualified for membership in the MacAusley 100,000 Club with the Sun Life Co. and has now the distinction of being the largest personal producer of life assurance in the Eastern Townships and won the silver cup in 6 months contest in 1915 for greatest amount of personal business produced in his distrisct; 1916 elected councillor Granby, married Sybil E. Rowell, Abbotsford, Que., Nov 12, 1884; children, George W., 1885; Helen M., 1887; Mabel E., 1888; Alberta M., 1893; Ornice R., 1902. References
