Orville Claunch was recruited by Proctor & Gamble to work so he could play on their softball team. One of the teams they played was Colgate, which was located across the street from Proctor & Gamble. P&G was one of the first companies to start profit-sharing for retirement. Orville had 37 years service. Four years in Navy, WWII.

Obituary - Kansas City Times/Star, May 5, 1986 Orville A. Claunch Orville A. Claunch, 77 Countryside, died Friday at Shawnee Mission Medical Center. He was a lifelong resident. Mr. Claunch was a pipefitter for Procter & Gamble Co. for 37 years and retired in 1970. He was a Mason, a member of the Scottish Rite bodies and Abdallah Shrine, and a charter member of the Johnson County Shrine Club. He was past president of the Countryside Homes Association. He attended the University of Kansas and was a letterman in baseball and basketball. He was a semi-professional player on the Procter & Gamble Industrial League team. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Veronica "Ronnie" Claunch of the home, a brother Glen Claunch, north Kansas City; and two sisters; Mrs. Marietta Skaggs, north Kansas City; and Mrs. Helen Millett, Leawood. Services will be at 1 p.m.. Tuesday at Newcomer's Overland Park Chapel, burial in Johnson County Memorial Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 7 p.m.. today at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Shriners Hospitals for Crippled Children.
