OBIT: The Progressive Examiner Thursday, November 30, 1967 Orleans, Indiana "Tractor Accident Take Life of Orville Burke

An Orleans, R2 farmer, Orville "Red" Burke, was fatally injured in a tractor accident late Monday afternoon on his farm 1 1/2 miles south west of Orleans. According to information received from a member of the family, Mr Burke and a neighbor, Paul Jacobs had been picking corn on the Jacobs farm and after Jacobs stopped work at the property to run his school bus route, Burke moved the equipment to his own farm to pick corn. Jacobs at milking time noticed that there was no light in the Burke barn and went to the corn field in search of his neighbor. He is reported to have found Burke on the ground, but still conscious, apparently for some unknown reason, he fell off the tractor and the tractor and wagon ran over him. The accident is believed to have occurred about 4:00 pm and the injured m an was found about 6:00pm and rushed by ambulance to the Orange County Hospital in Paoli, where he died at 8:30 pm.

Mr Burke, 56, was born December 30, 1911 in Wayne County, KY, the son of General Harrison and Nina Stepp Burke. He was united in marriage on Sept. 4, 1937 to Versa Anderson of Monticello, KY. A farmer most of his life, Mr. Burke and his family moved to this community in Feb. 1953.

Survivors include his wife, two daughters, Mrs Rom (Norma Sue) Williams of Orleans, and Mrs Donald (Patsy) Harris of Hope, Ind. , two sons David of Orleans and Roger at home. His mother of Monticello, KY, two brothrs, three sisters and seven grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother.

Mr Burke was a member of the Mt Horeb Church. funeral services were conducted at 2 pm today at the Mt Herob Church with Rev. Robert Kirkman officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery under the direction of the Ochs Funeral Home.
