Orin farmed in Webster County, Nebraska during his early married life. In 1906 he opened a restaurant in the basement of his brother William's building in Red Cloud, NE but moved it to Blue Hill when William wanted to open a bowling alley in his building. Around 1911 he, his wife Alice, and six children moved to Shenandoah, Iowa where he worked for the Economy Hog and Cattle Powder Company that produced and sold food supplements for livestock . By 1914 the family had moved to Cedar Rapids where Orin started his own company to sell feed supplements. As his sons grew up, he brought them into the expanding business.
