Record 232 Name: Kay LaBoyteaux Hollan Website: Referred by: Yahoo! From: Slocomb, AL Time: 1999-06-03 17:35:02 Comments: What a great page! Thanks for sharing all your info. I am looking for information on the HOLLAN family. We have the name spelled HOLLAN with no "d" on the end. The names of the children of James Hollan (b.13 Jan 1845 d. 1911) and Amy Elizabeth Henderson (b.17 Mar 1852 d.20 Dec 1935) and dates that you have all match up with my information. According to my information Oliver Perry Holland (H453) should be spelled HOLLAN (without the "d") as well as his children's and grandchildren. My husband is Donald Lee Hollan (b. 13 Apr 1935) the son of Fred Peers Hollan who is the son of Oliver Perry Hollan (b.28 Aug 1869 d. 3 Mar 1937). We know that at one time the name had the "d" but it was dropped along the way. We haven't been able to uncover the reason for the change. Do you have any clues? Would appreciate any other info you might have on this. Thanks again for sharing all your information. And congratulations on a job well done. Happy family hunting. Kay

NOTE: Oliver never changed his name to Hollan. I have his signature on a document dated February 6, 1882 where he is still signing his name Oliver P. Holland. In 1870 his son James is living next door and he is spelling his name Hollan so he must be the one that started the change for some reason. Then you find James in the 1880 Fleming County, Kentucky census and the last name is spelled Holland.
