Son of Thos. & Eliz. Holaday, Oliver Holaday, born in Chatham Co., No. Carolina, 12-8-1823, came to Ind. Oct. 1826 and settled in Liberty Township, Henry Co. His mother died July 1862 & his father died April 1873. The first winter spent in Ind., a family of fourteen lived in a log house 16 x 18. When Oliver was 15 yrs of age he began teaching school & taught 13 yrs. He was married 6-10-49 to Nancy, daughter of Wm. & Mary Wyatt, and soon after settled a farm in Blue River township where the family still resides.

He has been a member of the Christian Church 30 yrs. and a minister in the church since 1845. In 1870 he opened a general mercantile store at his home place where he continued until 1879, when his son Marcus continued to run it until 1882, when he moved to Leonard (unreadable sentence) worked at the boot and shoe trade for forty yrs. or since he was 20 yrs. old. At home they have 90 acres of land well improved. To them have been born 12 children, Nine of whom are living Eli, Wm. H., James, Marcus, Albert, Oliver, Mary E., Martha, Martindale. Deceased are Nancy, Josephine, & John. Mr. Holaday is a republican- orig. Whig.
