Facts and Events
Oliver Doolittle's grave is the oldest known grave in Winchester, NH's Evergreen Cemetery, according to cemetery caretaker Clifford Struthers. (Personal conversation between C. Struthers and J. Smith, 29 July 2005.) I had thought he was not married, but there's a possibility that he was married to Thankful Taylor, b. 18 July 1716, dau of Thomas Taylor. She is referenced as widow of Oliver Doolittle in "Western Massachusetts: a history 1636-1925" She subsequently goes on to marry David Field. From the book "Early maps of Winchester, NH 1733-1892," we find on p. 5 reference to Oliver Doolittle purchasing or living at #28 of Proprietors at Ye Bow (along the Ashuelot River). Page 7 shows a 1788 map (6th division) with an Oliver Doolittle living at #10, but this must have been a much later Oliver Doolittle as *this* one died in 1739, probably without issue.
