Mrs. Olive Maley Simmons Arbogast, 96, a former resident of Mill Creek and a resident of Colonial Place for the past four years, passed away Friday morning, Sept. 23, 2011, at Colonial Place. She was born June 17, 1915, at Valley Head, a daughter of the late Marvin and Zedie Hamrick Simmons. On March 27, 1937, at Elkins, she was married to Ray Virgil Arbogast, who preceded her in death March 28, 1996. She is survived by two sons, Sherman Ray Arbogast of Huttonsville and Jimmy Dale Arbogast of Petersburg, Va.; and three daughters, Jane Donachy, of Ruther Glen, Va., Shirley Moore, of Dailey and Linda Coffman, of Elkins; one brother, Sherman Simmons of Winfield, Kansas; and one half sister, Lucille Hogan, of Ohio; 37 grandchildren, 57 great grandchildren and 46 great great-grandchildren also survive. Also preceding her in death were three daughters, Wanda June Arbogast, Mary Ellen Pierce and Avanella Pierce; two sons, Don Hartsel Arbogast and Bobby Homer Arbogast; two brothers, Homer and Wilford Simmons; three sisters, Rose Weese, Jenny Currence and Sylvia Sharp; and four grandchildren. Olive was a housewife; mother and grandmother, who loved to quilt, work puzzles, read the Bible and work with her flowers. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and one of her greatest joys were her grandchildren and recalling happy memories of each of them. She was a loving caring mother, generous at heart, and always had a smile for you. She was a member of the Mill Creek United Methodist Church. Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Verl L. Simmons officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain State Memorial Gardens near Gilman. Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Hospice, 1600 Crim Avenue, Belington, W.Va. 26250 in memory of Mrs. Arbogast.
