LAST RITES FOR OLE A. WESTERLUND HELD HERE WED.

Olaf A. Westerlund, a resident of this community for many years, pass away on Saturday, October 8th at the St. Luke's Hospital in Thief River Falls, following a ten day illness at his home here. His death (health) had been failing for several years previously, though he was up and about most of the time. Olaf Andrea Westerlund was born May 10th, 1872 in Bergsjo, Ongermanland, Sweden and came to America with his parents in May 1888, coming first to Warren. About 1898 he took up a homestead in Lind township, Roseau County, and spent most of his time there and up to the Iron Range unitl he moved to Karlstad in 1943. He was married to Mary Hammerback of Drayton in 1928. Left to mourn his passing are his widow, one sister, Mrs. Nels Lexen of Grand Rapids, Minnesota, one step-daughter, Mildred, Mrs. J.A. Gamm of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, two step-sons, Henning and Walter Westerlund of Minneapolis, and many nieces and nephews, among them Ole Syrstad of Karlstad and Olaf Lofstrom of Alvarado. Last rites were held on Wednesday forenoon from the Pentecosal church, where he attended regularly, with Reverend Riveness officiating. A specialmusical number, "Will There Be Any Stars" was sung in Swedish as a special request by Mrs. Nomie Anderson. There were also other special numbers. Pallbearers were George Rasmussen, Sr., Paul Kristiansen, Peter Aslakson, Olaf E. Johnson, Chris Pederson and Alfred Carlson of Strandquist. Interment was made in the Karlstad Cemetery. Mr. Westerlund was of a quiet nature, home-loving and sociable. His friendly hand clasp and cheerful greetings will be sadly missed by a host of friends.
