I descend from the Obediah Cooksey, Sr (d. c. 1783) line out of Virginia. He was married to Lydia Calvert (b. c. 1750, d. c. 1839) and had at least 4 children: Warren Cooksey, Sr m. Susan?, Obediah Cooksey Jr m. Susannah Simpson, Lydia Cooksey m. Joseph Wood, and William Cooksey. (Lydia Calvert had a second marriage to George Mills, with three children: John, Caty and Anne.) Obediah Cooksey, Jr. (b. 1776, d. 1845) and Susannah Simpson b. 1781, d. 1856), had at least 11 children: Levi m. (1) Elizabeth Wood and (2) Louise Pffifer; Catherine m. William Russell; Simpson m. (1) Mary Fairfax and (2) Sarah Johns; William m. Mary Mock Shirgley; Edward; George W.; Harrison; John m. (1) Elizabeth Anne Curry (2) Susan Curry; Jane Ann m. George Hann; George Thomas m. Angeline Naylor; James H. m. Elizabeth Worrell. John Cooksey (b. 14 Aug 1820, d. 27 Sept 1893) and Elizabeth Curry (b. 18 June 1828, d. 17 Aug 1855) had 3 children: Susan Mary m. ? Benjamin; Decatur Webster m. Mary Simpson; Obediah Curry m. Rose Seiber. John and his second wife, Susan (b. 21 Apr 1839, d. 22 Dec 1909) had 10 children: Robert Thomas m. Carrie Powell; Elizabeth Ann m. James Flaherty; William Randolph m. Leila Campbell; Roberta Lee m. Charles Lawson; Lilly Jane m. John W. Lawson; Dorcas Matilda; John Elmer Lupton; Effie May m. Charles Hagan; David Mott m. Catherine Treiber; Chester Dinwiddie m. (1) Lydia Virts (2) Josephine Virts. [Note: Susan and Elizabeth Anne Curry were sisters, the daughters of Robert and Mary Ann Kirkpatrick Curry.] David Mott Cooksey (b. 15 Jul 1874, i. 12 June 1958) and Catherine Treiber (b. 17 Jun 1882 , d. 1 Feb. 1948) had 4 children: Catherine m. Robert Galloway; Marie m. Frank Mullen; David m. Louisa Arnold; Margaret m. William Mower. I am one of 4 children of Marie and Frank Mullen. The earliest branches we have found centered in Prince William, Fauquier, and Loudoun Counties, VA. Only in my grandfather's generation did we really begin to scatter to the wind (although some of John's siblings headed off to Ohio soon after he was born). It is believed that the father of Obed Sr was probably Vincent Cooksey (b. c. 1720, d. 1783), but research is, of course, on-going. I also would love to have info on some of the descendents of the other extended clan members as I'm always looking for cousins.
