The funeral of the late Norris Wilson Friend, a well known farmer living five miles northwest of Corunna, was held Monday afternoon at the United Brethren church at Corunna, of which he was a member. The pastor, Rev. Bern K. Keller, officiated and burial was made in Sixteen cemetery. Mr. Friend died at 10 o'clock Thursday night from neuralgia of the heart. He was seventy-nine years of age and had been ill three weeks. Jackson township was the birth place of Mr. Friend on July 8, 1855. He lived there until he reached manhood and he moved fifty-five years ago to the neighborhood where he died. Mr. Friend was married three times, first on Aug. 16, 1874, to Miss Susann Detter, who died Jan. 30, 1906. Mr. Friend and Florinda Swander were united in marriage Sept. 27, 1906, and she died in 1921. He was married to Catherine Becker June 18, 1922, and she survives. Other survivors are six children, Mrs. Manda Nichols, Mrs. Alda Schurr, Milo Friend, Emery Friend and John Friend, all of Richland township, and Pearl Friend of Richmond, Ind., one step-son, Howard Becker of Corunna; seventeen grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and one step grandchild. A brother, James Friend, died Feb. 2 at the age of eighty-eight years at his home six miles southeast of Auburn and burial was made in White City cemetery, Spencerville. Note: written on obit 1935.
