Nina studied ballet and was a ballerina in the company of Mikhail Fokine. At a young age she met and married a man in the orchestra, but they later divorced. In 1930, she married Irving Fassler, with whom she raised two daughters, and they lived together the rest of their long lives in New York and later in Florida.
