Ormerod quotes Leycester quoting the Monasticon quoting an ancient roll for a tale about Nigel, which makes him baron of Halton.
But William was baron of Halton and constable of Chester in the Domesday Book in 1086. There's no earlier record, so no evidence that William's father Nigel was ever in England.
