Feb. 11, 1720. Ch. b: Johannes, bp. May 25, 1723; Johannes, b. June 14, 1725; Daniel, Mar. 13, 1727; Margarieta, May 15, 1729, m. Pieter Bosie; Simon, April 24, 1734. "Genealogy of The Fort Family in New York State" by Jerome H. Fort 1924 Pages 46-55 NICHOLAS FORT, No. 7, son of Jean LeForte Nicholas purchased 1250 acres of land on the banks of the Mohawk River for his son Simon, who later distributed it among his four sons, Nicholas, Richard, Daniel and John S. This land was near Niskayuna. I have copies of several ancient documents relating to Nicholas Fort. One dated October 19, 1734 is a "Bond" given by his mother, Margriet, and his eldest brother John for one hundred pounds and refers to a piece of land owned by Geertruy Groot, sister of Margriet (Rinckhout) Fort. Another is dated May 1, 1728 and is a release by John (No. 3) to his brothers Nicholas, Daniel and Isaac of his interest in a piece of land at Canastigoene. Another is a release by Nicholas to his son John N. (No. 73) of a piece of land in the same section. FORT'S FERRY "...The Fort's early established a Ferry across the river and opened a road direct to Albany. The Ferry is known today as Fort's Ferry." Schuyler, George, W. "Colonial New York" N.Y. Schribner, 1883. "...Nicholas Fort kept a public house at Fort's Ferry before the Revolutionary War. It is related that George Washington was ferried across the River at this point and stopped at Fort's tavern while on his northern tour in 1783." "...Vischer's Ferry, Fort's Ferry and Rexford's Flats are located on the Erie Canal." "A Descriptive and Biographical Record of Saratoga County, New York" (Prepared under the auspices of the Saratogian.) Boston History Co. 1889 Town of Clifton Park: "The Fort family, originally Liberte, had obtained a deed to Indian lands about 1700, although they may have lived on the north shore of the Mohawk as early as 1684. The ferry was begun by Nicholas Fort about 1728 and there was a public house at the ferry before the Revolution. Fort's Ferry was very successful and the family grew. By the time of the Revolutionary War, there were thirty-one Forts able to serve in the Military." "Saratoga County Heritage" by Violet B.
