The son of Moses Shanks born about 1750 who received a 500 acre land grant in 1787 on Puncheon Camp creek a small stream in northern Greene County, Tennessee.
Married Rosanna Graham about 1800 in Greene County, Tennessee.
Children: Silas Carrick, John, Moses, Flora, James, Andrew, Jane, Susannah, Nancy, Mary, Rebecca
A veteran of the War of 1812.
Their son, Moses, his wife and five of his sisters traveled together from Greene County, Tennessee and settled in Scotland County, Missouri in about 1840.
